U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Robert Cataldo, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department firefighter, simulates being a second casualty during a confined space training exercise at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, April 14, 2022. The scenario involved a teenager (simulated by a mannequin) who fell and was injured after climbing down into a facility. While climbing down to rescue the victim, Cataldo simulated falling after slipping on a broken step, so other firefighters from his team had to complete the rescue. This type of training is vital to the first responders to provide them with the necessary skills to extricate wounded or trapped personnel, including high-angle litter and stretcher evacuation.
