Spc. Sam Hanchold from the 173rd Airborne Brigade, touches a monument as she finished 3rd place during the Col. Darby 40-mile challenge and WWII terrain-walk event at Paschiera del Garda, Italy, April 23, 2022. More than 500 participated in the event, youngest being 12 years old. Participants walked, ran, and marched the approximately 40-mile course along the banks of Lake Garda to reflect on what happened on the shores of the lake 77 years earlier. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility.
