NAS Lemoore commanding officer CAPT Douglas M. Peterson has a soft spot for the highly trained Military Working Dogs that are a part of the Security Forces Department.
Military Working Dogs are important assets to the Security Forces team, and now their new kennel reflects that.
On May 3, 2022, NASL Commanding Officer CAPT Douglas M. Peterson, PWO CDR Gregory Woods and the Public Works, Security Forces and construction team officially opened the new kennel facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The $2.3 million project was commissioned to address the health and safety concerns of the previous existing kennels.
The previous 4 foot by 8 foot kennels were too small for the MWDs, and created an environment where they would injure their tails in the stalls.
The new kennel provides a 8 foot by 10 foot living space, which is a 250 percent increase in the indoor living space.
The project includes 1,600 square feet of new construction and 900 square feet of renovations to the existing kennel, which was turned into an examination room, for a total of 2,500 square feet.
The MWDs moved into their new kennels on April 12, 2022.
