Blanchfield Army Community Hospital physician, Dr. Michael A. Helwig, medical director of Soldier Health Services, was named Civilian Hero of Military Medicine, by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine during an award ceremony in Washington D.C., May 5. As the head technical advisor for Fort Campbell’s COVID-19 response he enabled Soldier readiness by pioneering protocols for pre- and post-deployment testing to limit spread, evaluation criteria for hospital admission, and home monitoring.
