Sgt. Joseph Sanders, an airborne paratrooper assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade, stops to fill his canteen during the 12- mile foot march of the 2022 Best Squad/Best Warrior Competition sponsored by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), held on Caserma Del Din May 25, 2022. The Best Warrior Competitors are challenged physically, emotionally, and cognitively. These three intertwined domains are regularly tested in combat and are strongly influenced by experiences and environments. Assessing Soldiers in these areas under arduous conditions helps develop both the individual and the team.
