Cadet Caleb Doyle is a rising senior at the United States Military Academy at West Point, currently taking part in the Cadet Troop Leader Training program with 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division on Fort Stewart, Georgia. CTLT provides cadets the opportunity to experience leadership in Army units over a three to four-week period. Cadets serve in lieutenant-level leadership positions in Active Duty units.
While in CTLT, Doyle shadowed an engineer platoon leader, helped oversee maintenance and day-to-day platoon activities, worked with Soldiers to construct different explosive breaching mechanisms, learned about various vehicles in an engineer platoon, and played the role of opposing forces for a National Guard training exercise.
Doyle is from Mckinney, Texas, and decided to join the military to follow in the footsteps of his two older brothers. “I watched what they went through, all the hardships they had, and the strong men that they emerged as, and I wanted a piece of that,” he said. Doyle decided to pursue becoming an Army officer and was accepted to attend the prestigious USMA. With one more year until graduation, he says he has grown and overcome many challenges during his time as a cadet. “I think you emerge as a person with stronger character, stronger vigor, and greater mental toughness.”
Doyle plans to graduate soon and hopes to become an infantry officer. He also plans to attend Ranger school and become a platoon leader.
