SILVER SPRING, Md. (June 17, 2022) – Rear Adm. Gayle Shaffer, Deputy Surgeon General and Deputy Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, poses with visiting students from the Navy Medical and Dental Historically Black Colleges and Universities Intern Program during a tour at Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC). Shaffer spoke with participants about opportunities in Navy Medicine, and on the importance on diversity within the Navy. Participating students received instruction on virology, wound infections, infectious disease and various laboratory functions and met with officers from the Nurse Corps, Dental Corps and Medical Service Corps.
