    SILVER SPRING, Md. (June 17, 2022) – Rear Adm. Gayle Shaffer, Deputy Surgeon General and Deputy Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, presents a coin to Jasmine Jones, a junior at Howard University, during a tour at Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC). Shaffer spoke with Jones and other students visiting NMRC as part of Navy Medical and Dental Historically Black Colleges and Universities Intern Program, discussing opportunities in Navy Medicine and the importance of diversity within the Navy. Participating students received instruction on virology, wound infections, infectious disease and various laboratory functions and met with officers from the Nurse Corps, Dental Corps and Medical Service Corps.
