U.S Marines with Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101, Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 11, 3rd Maine Aircraft Wing (MAW), load a CATM-120D captive air training missile onto an F/A-18C Hornet during combat aircraft loading area (CALA) training on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, June 16, 2022. The CATM-120D is the training variant of the AIM-120D AMRAAM (Advanced Medium Range Air-To-Air Missile). CALA training with different ordnance allows MAG-11 to capitalize on the multi roll capability of the F/A-18, enabling the aircraft to fight its way through a contested environment and attack a target. The Marines used the CALA training to sharpen their capability to load live ordnance onto aircraft, which ensures 3rd MAW is ready to be forward deployed and engaged, anytime, anywhere, at a moment's notice.
