Retired U.S. Army Maj. John J. Duffy receives the Medal of Honor from president Joseph R. Biden in the east room at the White House in Washington, D.C., July 5, 2022. Duffy distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty, while serving as the Senior Advisor to the 11th Airborne Battalion, 2d Brigade, Airborne Division, Army of the Republic of Vietnam in the Republic of Vietnam, during the period of 14 to 15 April 1972. Duffy was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions on Dec. 1, 1972. On April 16, 2018, the Secretary of the Army recommended upgrade of his award to the Medal of Honor.
