Members of the community cross a miter gate during a tour of Allegheny River Lock 4 during Lock Fest, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District in Natrona, Pennsylvania, July 9, 2022. A miter gate is a pair of gates that swing out from the side walls and meet at an angle to aid in maintaining water levels inside the lock chamber. Lock Fest is an annual free event open to the public. It provides an opportunity for members of the community to lock through navigation facilities, watch live locking demonstrations, learn valuable water-safety tips, talk to tow operators, meet Bobber the Water Safety Dog, visit educational exhibits, gain knowledge on safe river navigation and more.
