Andi Fitzgibbon, a water quality biologist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, shows visitors a Tipulidae Larva found in Bull Creek earlier that morning during Lock Fest, hosted in Natrona, Pennsylvania, July 9, 2022. The larva will eventually emerge as a Crane Fly, also known as a Mosquito Hawk. The booth helped the public understand how local streams and lakes are vital towards the healthy management of the Allegheny River. Lock Fest is an annual free event open to the public, hosted by the Pittsburgh District at Allegheny River Lock 4. It provides an opportunity for members of the community to lock through navigation facilities, watch live locking demonstrations, learn valuable water-safety tips, talk to tow operators, meet Bobber the Water Safety Dog, visit educational exhibits, gain knowledge on safe river navigation and more.
