Spc. Jaret James, a cavalry scout, grades shave-tail recruit, 2nd Lt. Christain Peyton, with the 1st Battalion 152 Cavalry Regiment during the Spur Ride, a U.S. Army cavalry tradition that tests a new scout's physical and mental fortitude through a series of tests lasting multiple days, at Camp Atterbury, Ind., July 25, 2022. Spur candidates are called as shave-tails which dates back to 1776 when a new soldier would mount a horse with a shaved tail to indicate to other riders that the new soldier was inexperienced.
