Chief of Naval Research Rear Adm. Lorin Selby and recent graduates of the United States Naval Academy pose for a group shot after they gave their counternarcotics presentations to leaders of the SCOUT initiative.
Multiple teams engaged in a week-long "design thinking" challenge: starting with dozens of off-the-wall ideas, USNA grads systematically and strategically honed their ideas into solutions that support the JIATF-S area of operations (AO), namely, counternarcotics measures in the open sea. The solutions are designed to address the challenge of having limited resources to approach a large AO and be technologically savvy -- graduates pitched improvements in data classification for sophisticated machine-learning algorithms, developments in natural language processing and deploying drones and sensors.
