U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Ayala Zapien, a chemical biological radioactive nuclear specialist, with 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and U.S. Navy damage controlman 3rd class Doherty Logan, with repair division, Amphibious Assault Ship USS Tripoli (LHA-7), conduct a decontamination drill aboard LHA-7, in the Philippine Sea, Aug. 9, 2022. After a chemical, biological, radioactive, or nuclear attack personnel returning to the interior of the vessel, must be decontaminated to ensure no contamination to embarked personnel. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
