U.S. Navy Lt. Matthew Marshall, outgoing battalion chaplain with 2d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, poses for a photo on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Aug. 10, 2022. Lt. Marshall was awarded the Military Chaplain's Association Distinguished Service Award for exemplifying the highest standards of the military and the Chaplain Corps.
“Serving V22 has been a tremendous experience, and assisting and guiding service members through their issues has been humbling, and those are the bonds I hold close to my Heart. Having a Marine come up to me as I check out and say thank you for all you’ve done for the unit is phenomenal gratitude.”
Headed to Coast Guard Sector Columbia Rivera, based in Portland, Oregon, Lt. Marshall is looking forward to the experience of working with a different service.
“Although working with a Marine Corps command was a life dream of mine, I am excited to work with the Coast Guard community because they have diverse things that they do, and it’ll be interesting to see how that unfolds.”
Lt. Marshall was recognized for his service with a Marine command and succeeding in collateral duties within the battalion and regiment.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized for this award, and we don’t do it alone, so I thank the leaders at 2/2 for the support.”
