Illinois National Guard and 1st Air Cavalry Brigade Help Skokie Honor its Independence Day Parade Military Grand Marshals

Master Sgt. (retired) Henry "Hank" Gould speaks at the Aug. 15 Village of Skokie (Illinois) Board of Trustees meeting after Maj. James Brock of the Illinois Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 122nd Field Artillery Regiment presented him with a letter from Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard, and gifts from Gould's old unit. Three Army Veterans were to be honored as the Military Grand Marshals of the Skokie Independence Day Parade on July 4 when the parade was suddenly cancelled because of the shootings at the parade in nearby Highland Park. Vietnam Veteran Gerald Jaffe, who served with the 1st Air Cavalry in Vietnam and went on to become a local business owner in Skokie, was also honored receiving a letter from 1st Air Cavalry Brigade Commander Col. Timothy Jaeger, who wrote from the brigade’s deployment to Europe. The 1st Team also sent Jaffe a unit patch and T-shirt. Staff Sgt. Paul Plotnick, who served in the Army Reserves from 1968 to 1975 and would go on to become a community leader and successful attorney, was also honored. (U.S. Army photo by Spc.
