A U.S. Air Force E-3 Sentry, assigned to the 552nd Air Control Wing, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, takes off from a runway at Joint Base San Antonio-Kelly Field Annex, Texas, Aug. 29, 2022. The aircraft and crew used Kelly Field to fly to and from the Roar by the Shore air and space expo in South Padre Island, Texas. The E-3 Sentry is an airborne warning and control system aircraft with an integrated command and control battle management, surveillance, target detection, and tracking platform. The aircraft provides an accurate, real-time picture of the battlespace to the Joint Air Operations Center. AWACS provides situational awareness of friendly, neutral, and hostile activity, all-altitude and all-weather surveillance of the battle space, and early warning of enemy actions during joint, allied, and coalition operations.
