The auxiliary dam at Isabella Lake stretches to meet California State Route 178 in Lake Isabella, California, on July 28, 2022. Crews with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District are approaching completion of construction work on the Isabella Dam Safety Modification Project, which includes upgrades to the auxiliary and main dams, emergency spillway and a new labyrinth weir. The project is designed to reduce flood risk for downstream communities including Bakersfield.
