CARIBBEAN SEA - (Oct. 3, 2022) – Surinamese Sailors assigned to the Surinamese Coast Guard vessel P102 are briefed and fitted with flight safety gear as they prepare for a helicopter ride while working together with the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) in the Caribbean Sea, Oct. 3, 2022. The two ships conducted a Passing Exercise (PASSEX) and a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) Exercise to enhance proficiency and improve interoperability. The event strengthened the partnership between the U.S. and Suriname. Mesa Verde is deployed to the U.S. 4th Fleet area of operations to conduct theater security cooperation engagements to maintain access, enhance interoperability and build enduring partnerships in the Caribbean, Central and South America.
