221102-N-DW158-2665 PHILIPPINE SEA (Nov. 2, 2022) Sailors sign John Dearth III’s, lead guitarist of the band “Vertical Horizon,” grandfather’s 1951 USS Leyte (CV 32) cruise book after a concert in the hangar bay of the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), in the Philippine Sea, Nov. 2. Dearth’s grandfather served aboard USS Leyte (CV 32) and he asked Ronald Reagan Sailors to sign the cruise book as a way of honoring his grandfather’s memory. “Vertical Horizon” performed for the crew as part of a tour organized by Navy Entertainment, which provides Sailors with quality entertainment while overseas and on deployed ships at sea. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
