Maj. Gen. Ben Corell, Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard, presents a coin for excellence to Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael Kiel following the presentation of the U.S. Army Chief of Staff’s 2021 Deployment Excellence Award (DEA) to Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division “Red Bulls,” at Joint Force Headquarters in Johnston, Iowa, on Nov. 4, 2022. HHC was awarded the DEA in the small deploying unit category. The Boone-based unit deployed to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian in 2020-2021. Kiel, an Ankeny, Iowa, native, served as the HHC mobility officer and submitted the DEA packet soon after their return home from Kosovo.
