221114-N-YX844-1123 PHILIPPINE SEA (Nov. 14, 2022) The U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), steams in formation with the guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG 62), the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyer JS Atago (DDG 177) and the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Rappahannock (T-AO 204), during Keen Sword 23, in the Philippine Sea, Nov. 14. Keen Sword is a biennial, joint and bilateral field-training exercise involving U.S. military and JMSDF personnel, designed to increase readiness and interoperability while strengthening the ironclad Japan-U.S. alliance. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
