221114-N-PS962-1402 PHILIPPINE SEA (Nov. 14, 2022) The U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), steams in formation with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force guided-missile destroyer, JS Ashigara (DDG 178), during exercise Keen Sword 23, in the Philippine Sea, Nov. 14. Keen Sword is a biennial, joint and bilateral field-training exercise involving U.S. military and Japan Self-Defense Force personnel, designed to increase readiness and interoperability while strengthening the ironclad Japan-U.S. alliance. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
