Participants in the 23rd Annual Chicago's Christmas Ship ceremony, including Ninth Coast Guard District Commander Rear Adm. Michael Johnston, go over plans for the event in the wardroom of Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw (WLBB 30) at Chicago's Navy Pier Dec. 3, 2022. The event, which takes place during the ship's regular buoy-tending duties on Lake Michigan, brings trees to struggling families in Chicago and commemorates the loss of the original Christmas Ship, the schooner Rouse Simmons, in a Lake Michigan gale in November of 1912.
