CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2022) – Rear Admiral Darin K. Via, (left), Deputy Surgeon General, Deputy Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED), Capt. Kimberly Toone (center), commander Navy Medicine Operational Training Command, CDR. Virginia Damin, officer-in-charge Naval Expeditionary Medical Training Institiute, oversee a simulated combat casualty scenario by Marines assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines during Operation Firebreak, November 15, 2022. Operation Firebreak is an exercise designed to evaluate operational readiness this iteration specifically focused on the Role 2 providers and the in-field surgical readiness of ERSS team 29 and Fleet Surgical Team 5.
