U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Herbert Tunley, a fixed-wing aircraft mechanic with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 242, prepares to send off an F-35B Lightning II aircraft after conducting a live ordnance loading at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Dec. 12, 2022. This is the first time VMFA-242 has conducted live ordnance hot loading, a process when live ordnance is loaded onto a running aircraft to increase operational support in the air and decrease time spent on the ground. VMFA-242 conducted routine flight operations to maintain proficiency and readiness as a forward-deployed and fully operational 5th generation stealth fighter squadron.
