Lydia Sandberg, a co-chair member of the Santa to Villages program and a member of the Spouse's Association of Kodiak (SAK), hands a candy cane to a child in Akhiok during a visit to the remote village on Dec. 7, 2022. SAK members work year-round to facilitate this historic outreach program, coordinating with the rural school staff members, the community of Kodiak, Coast Guard Air Station and Base Kodiak personnel and other local supporters to raise funds, collect donations, and help Santa deliver toys, stockings, hygiene products, hand-knitted items, fruit, and books.
