Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB 10) transits through pack ice in the Southern Ocean, Dec. 25, 2022. The Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star first arrived in the pack ice on Christmas Day. Polar Star is en route to Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze, a joint service, inter-agency support operation for the National Science Foundation, which manages the United States Antarctic Program.
