Adélie penguins look at the Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB 10) as it transits the pack ice in the Southern Ocean, Dec. 27, 2022. The crew observed penguins, seals and petrels while transiting the pack ice enroute to Operation Deep Freeze 2023. Polar Star is en route to Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze, a joint service, inter-agency support operation for the National Science Foundation, which manages the United States Antarctic Program.
