Connecticut State Guard Maj. John Garcia, major commandant of the Second Company Governor’s Foot Guard, waits for the start of Governor Ned Lamont’s inauguration inside the Governor William A. O’Neill Armory, Hartford, Connecticut, Jan. 4, 2023. The State Guard, also known as the Governor’s Guards, is the organized militia portion of the Connecticut Military Department. These units are trained to perform the duties of the Connecticut National Guard when the Guard is mobilized, historically they were the Governor’s guards as he traveled from New Haven and Hartford. These units also bear the distinction of carrying on the lineage of Connecticut’s infantry and cavalry regiments from the colonial period. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Matthew Lucibello)
