M101A1 howitzer barrels are lowered into their towed configuration outside the Governor William A. O’Neill Armory, Hartford, Connecticut, Jan. 4, 2023. The M101A1, formerly the M2A1, first produced in 1941, was a 105mm howitzer used throughout World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The cannon, now retired, is used for ceremonial gun salutes such as the 19-gun salute fired on the fourth to honor the inauguration of Governor Ned Lamont. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Matthew Lucibello)
