Three U.S. Air Force C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, assigned to the 36th Airlift Squadron, start engines across the flightline in preparation for the elephant walk portion of the Airborne 23 exercise at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Jan. 31, 2023. Nine C-130J aircraft were used to carry approximately 300 Japan Ground Self-Defense Force paratroopers to drop zones at Higashifuji training field during the static-line personnel jump portion of the exercise. The exercise also included nighttime airdrops of 100 supply bundles built by JGSDF members and inspected by Yokota Airmen. This is the first time the U.S. and Japan have worked together to build cargo bundles in support of the annual exercise. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Jessica Avallone)
