Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) held the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) graduation ceremony on Feb. 3, 2023.
Physician assistants/physician associates (PAs) are licensed clinicians who practice medicine in every specialty and setting. The profession was established in 1967. According to the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA), there are approximately 159,000 PAs in the U.S. who have engaged in more than 500 million patient interactions per year.
The WRNNMC IPAP program in May 2021, and is 29 months long, with students educated at the master’s degree level. The work encompasses more than 2,500 hours of clinical experience, and a series of practicum rotations including dermatology, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otorhinolaryngology (head and neck surgery/medicine), psychiatry, surgery, pediatrics, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and family practice.
