This Fort Riley Friday we feature the Custer House. Quarters 24 Sheridan Avenue was constructed of native #limestone in 1865 and is the only surviving set of quarters from from the post's original construction period as evidenced by the smooth cuts of the limestone. Gen. Custer and his wife Libby did not actually stay in Quarters 24, but rather 3 buildings to the west in Quarters 21. Quarters 24-A (the left side of Custer House) continued to serve as officer's housing until 1974. It has since been furnished to reflect the lifestyle of the late 1870s and is now part of the U.S. Cavalry Museum. Quarters 24-B (right side of Custer House) was used for officer's quarters until 1984. It is now used for meetings and receptions.
