This Fort Riley Friday we visit Tuttle Park on Main Post. The park is named after Col. Hiram Tuttle who served at Fort Riley during the 1930s. Col. Tuttle trained horses for Olympic competition and is the only U.S. rider to win an individual medal in dressage, capturing a bronze medal in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. He competed again in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. Col. Tuttle used the area now known as Tuttle Park as his training grounds. Limestone jumps were placed around the park and used for training riders and their mounts. One of these jumps has been preserved and can been today in the middle of the park. A historical marker has been placed at the intersection of Godfrey and Morris Avenues.
