Representatives from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency's (DPAA) Outreach and Communications Directorate visited the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Orlando VAMC) and toured the Simulation Learning, Evaluation, Assessment, and Research Network (SimLearn) laboratory in Orlando, Florida, Feb. 23, 2023. This lab provides a safe learning environment that enhances diagnostic, procedural, and communication skills to support quality care and the best possible outcomes. The SimLearn laboratory is the central hub for coordinating all national VA simulation-based clinical training activities.
The DPAA representatives visited the Orlando VAMC to learn about their POW/MIA programs scheduled for April and September. They met with senior leaders during their visit and received a detailed overview of the medical center.
The team at the Orlando VAMC has a designated POW Coordinator to provide support to any POWs seeking medical care directly from them. The DPAA representatives stressed the importance of raising awareness of the agency's mission and exploring potential collaborations with the VA to ensure that the stories of the POWs in their care continue to be honored and recognized.
