From left to right: U.S. Marine Corps Col. Richard Martin, the Camp Hansen Commander, Kin Town Mayor Hajime Nakama, Kin Assembly Chairperson Yoshimitsu Kakazu and U.S. Marine Corps Installations Pacific Commanding General Maj. Gen. Stephen E. Liszewski pose for a photo during the Main Gate Opening Ceremony on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, March 22, 2023. Liszewski, Okinawa Defense Bureau Director General Isao Ono, Nakama and Kakazu were present for the ceremony. The new gate connects Camp Hansen directly to the Okinawan Expressway. The project, which began June 2020, took approximately three years to finish and is anticipated to reduce base commute times by 15-20 minutes per trip as well as reducing the rush hour traffic for the residents of Kin and others commuting along that route.
