U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages school projects in Gabon to support local communities

A local contractor, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District Project Engineer Capt. Ben Ketchum, U.S. Libreville Embassy Chief of the Office of Security Cooperation Cmdr. Lisa C. Berg and a local Gabonese official discuss expansion plans for the Amitié Primary School on Oyem, Gabon with during a pre-construction site visit February 28, 2023. The planned expansion of the overcrowded school is being funded through U.S. Africa Command’s Humanitarian Assistance program with construction managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in close partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Gabon. Projects like this one facilitate greater access to education for local children, which reduces stress on other aging schools nearby and supports the improvement of economic opportunities across the region.
