U.S. Air Force Col. Catherine "Cat" Logan, commander of Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and the 11th Wing, poses for a photo with the first mussel to be released in the Potomac River during a mussel release event, April 3, 2023, JBAB, Washington, D.C. The mussels were deployed to clean the rivers adjoining JBAB; a single mussel can filter more than five gallons of water per day, removing harmful pollutants and debris while improving the health of the river. According to the 11th Wing Installation Environmental Commitment Statement signed by Logan, JBAB is committed to environmental preservation and promoting the restoration of the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers.
