A U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds F-16 Fighting Falcon performs a high-speed sneak pass while flying around 700 mph and only about 100 feet over the ground during the team’s performance at the Point Mugu Air Show on March 17 at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu in California. Since the jet was traveling close to the speed of sound, water vapor started to condense over its wings where the air pressure was the lowest. Another side effect of the jet’s speed is that spectators don’t hear it approaching, which both startled and excited them once it roared past. (U.S. Navy photo by Eric Parsons/Released)
