In April 2023, Missouri Department of Conservation checks the spawning Lake Sturgeon for eggs at the Melvin Price Locks and Dam in West Alton, Mo. The female sturgeons spawn at twenty-five years old and can lay up to 700,000 eggs with suitable conditions. Restoration of the state endangered Lake Sturgeon is heavily dependent upon the availability of suitable spawning habitat.
