An American bald eagle is perched above the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District’s Colorado River Locks in Matagorda, Texas, June 6, 2023. The Colorado River Locks provide navigation access through the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, assisting vessels crossing the intersection of the Colorado River. They enable the transit of more than 12,000 tows, over 30,000 recreational or commercial vessels, and 20 million tons of product annually, significantly impacting the local, state, and national economies.
