U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey is refueled by U.S. Airmen after a simulated High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) fire, Avon Park Air Force Range, Florida, May 30, 2023. The tanker truck was carried in a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III’s cargo hold as part of a new strategy of carrying fuel that is used for several aircraft before being loaded back on the C-17. Once all the aircraft were refueled, the remaining fuel was drained into the C-17 fuel tank before the empty tanker truck was loaded back onto the aircraft as part of a new refueling sustainability concept. The simulated fire of the HIMARS was part of Composite Training Unit Exercise (C2X), providing artillery support training as part of 26 MEU’s Special Operations Capable Certification. Expeditionary Operations Training Group organized C2X as the culminating exercise in the 26th MEU’s pre-deployment training program, ensuring they are ready to respond as a forward-deployed, sea-based MAGTF, capable of conducting amphibious operations as a crisis-response force-in-readiness and able to conduct contingency operations across the full spectrum of military operations.
