Charity Channon was the was wife of William Channon, the first Army employee of Rock Island Arsenal. They lived on the installation and Charity was involved in the Arsenal community and prison camp as a de facto nurse. Due of her prior exposure in England to many of the diseases afflicting the personnel and prisoners, she had immunity and was unaffected by the illnesses, according to family historical research.
