230428-N-TH560-1055 WASHINGTON (April 28, 2023) Master Chief Gunner’s Mate Jessica Harrison, from Twin Falls, Idaho, is pinned to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer by her first chief and mentor, retired Chief Gunner’s Mate John Richter, during a ceremony inside the Delbert D. Black National Chief’s Mess at the U.S. Navy Memorial, April 28, 2023. Harrison credits Richter with being a key influencer on her staying in the service. Harrison is the first woman in the U.S. Navy to achieve the rank of E-9 in the gunner’s mate rating, a career field dating back to the birth of the Navy.
