Retired U.S. Army Colonel Dr. John H. Felix, Korean War veteran, receives an award from Oxford University, presented by his daughter, during a National Flag Day ceremony hosted by the Military Order of the World Wars and the Veterans of Foreign Wars at the Oahu Veterans Center, Honolulu, June 14, 2023. Approved by Congress as a National observance on August 3, 1949, Flag Day commemorates the date in 1777, in which the first design of the national flag of the United States of America was approved.
