Midshipmen visited the USS America to receive an aboard ship experience to better prepare them for the roles and expectations of a U.S. Navy officer during their four-year degree program. Pizanti is a native of Bremerton, Washington; Smith is a native of Santa Rosa, California; and Cutter is a native of Anacortes, Washington. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
