Watervliet Arsenal painter Thomas Barnes applies paint to a M776 howitzer barrel used on the M777 light-weight howitzer. In its current configuration, painters apply paint by hand and must wear protective breathing hoods to protect themselves from paint fumes during the process. Construction for the new paint booth begins in 2024 and will use automation and robotics, increasing safety and quality. (U.S. Army photo)
