U.S. Marine Cops Lance Cpl. Blake Welk, an intelligence surveillance reconnaissance systems engineer with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, checks the functionality of their collections gear during a visit, board, search, and seizure exercise in the Coral Sea, July 8, 2023. Marines with the maritime raid force conducted the VBSS on amphibious transport dock ships USS New Orleans (LPD-18) to ensure the maritime interdiction capabilities. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
